The collective breaths of the citizens ofWhispering Springs,Texasheld as Travis Montgomery neared the coffin of Angus Fitzgerald, the man who had held the deed to the only piece of land in Texas Travis couldn’t buy. Travis wasn’t sure what everyone thought he might do. Spit on Fitzgerald’s grave once he was lowered into the ground? Spit on the coffin right now? Dance the jig at the death of theMontgomeryfamily’s archenemy? To the surprise of all, he tipped his hat to the mahogany box that held Fitzgerald’s remains and placed a bouquet of Texas Bluebonnets on top before walking away to join his parents and siblings standing just outside the tent covering the open grave from the unrelenting Texas sun.
