Maggie II is here

On September 7, 2010, I had to put my beloved Border Collie (Maggie) to sleep. She was over 15 years old. Had had a wonderful life. I had been trying to “prepare” myself for the past year. I knew she could only live so long. To say I was lonely for her would be an understatement. I have another dog (Jill) but at 75 pounds, she isn’t much of a lapdog.

I KNEW it was a bad idea but I started looking on Petfinder.com (some of the stories will break your heart. This site is like crack for an addict!) Then I discovered West Tennessee Border Collie Rescue, telling myself I’d just “look.” You know where this story is going, right? I discovered a small pure-bred border collie puppy named “Maggie.” I mean, was that a sign or what??

I started communicating about Maggie with the coordinator of the organization (without telling the husband.) Maggie’s “backstory” was that she was adopted by a guy who put her out in the backyard at 6 weeks old AND LEFT HER OUTSIDE DURING THE HEAT OF SUMMER!. Idiot. She had a “heat incidence”…maybe a heat stroke. She ended up at the vet’s office the next day. Fluids and antibiotics brought her around and she did well. When it came time to pick her up, he couldn’t afford to come get her and told the vet’s office to do whatever they wanted with her. One of the gals who works there called W. TN BC Rescue and fostered Maggie for the next 10 weeks.

Husband really wanted to go down to one dog, but I was sad sad sad. I needed to “mother” something. I talked a number of times with Maggie’s Foster Mother. Finally, I told husband that I had to get another dog and had found one. He agreed and even went to Memphis this weekend to pick her up for me.

Here are the first pictures…

First walk on a lead. Have some work to do!

She’s so sweet. I think she’ll be a great addition to our family.

Thanks for stopping by.
